WHAT IS THE TRANSITION TO TURKISH CITIZENSHIP?

It is the acquisition of Turkish citizenship by the foreigner/person who does not have citizenship ties with the State of the Republic of Turkey.

ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP

  1. Foreigners residing in Turkey continuously for five years,
  2. Foreigners who are married to a citizen of the Republic of Turkey and have been married for at least three years,
  3. Provided that it does not pose any danger to national security and public order;
  4. Foreigners who ensure the supply of industrial facilities to Turkey or who have passed or are convinced that they will pass extraordinary service in economic, social, sportive, cultural, scientific, technological and artistic fields and for whom a justified offer has been made by the relevant ministries,
  5. Foreigners who have a residence permit and Turquoise Card holders pursuant to the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458 and their foreign spouses, minor or dependent children of themselves and their spouses, Foreigners who are required to be naturalized,
  6. Foreigners recognized as immigrants,
  7. They will be able to regain Turkish citizenship, regardless of the period of residence in Turkey, provided that they do not pose a threat to national security;

a. Persons who lost their right to citizenship by obtaining a leave of absence, and persons who have been renounced from citizenship.

b .A minor who is adopted by a Turkish citizen can acquire Turkish citizenship as of the date of the decision if she does not pose a danger to national security and public order.

c. Due to lineage or place of birth;

1.Regardless of whether he is in Turkey or abroad, a child born to a Turkish citizen mother and father in a marriage union is considered a Turkish citizen. A child born out of wedlock to a Turkish citizen mother and a foreign father is considered a Turkish citizen.

2. A child born to a foreign mother and a Turkish citizen father outside of a marriage union in or out of Turkey acquires Turkish citizenship from birth if he or she is bound by lineage to a Turkish citizen father, pursuant to the provisions of the Law No. 5718 on International Private and Procedural Law.

3. A child born in Turkey who cannot acquire citizenship of any country by birth due to foreign parents is considered a Turkish citizen from birth. A child who has been in Turkey is deemed to have been born in Turkey unless otherwise proven.

What are the Conditions for Acquiring Turkish Citizenship?

A foreigner whose Turkish citizenship meets any of the following conditions can acquire citizenship with the proposal of the Ministry and the decision of the Council of Ministers within the scope of the law:
a. Foreigners determined by the Ministry of Economy to have made a fixed capital investment of at least 2 million USD,
b. Foreigners who have purchased immovables worth at least 1 Million US Dollars and put an annotation that they will not be sold for three years in the land registry and have been determined by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization,
c. Foreigners who create employment for at least 100 people and whose status is determined by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security,
d. Foreigners who have deposited at least 3 million USD in one of the banks operating in Turkey, and who require keeping it for 3 years, determined by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency,
e. Foreigners, determined by the Undersecretariat of Treasury, who purchase at least 3 million USD of government debt instruments and stipulate that they hold for three years,
f. Foreigners who have received at least 1.5 million USD worth of venture capital investment funds or real estate investment funds and held for three years, as determined by the Capital Markets Board,

WHERE SHOULD I APPLY TO BE A TURKISH CITIZEN?

In order to acquire our citizenship, it is necessary to apply to the Provincial Directorate of Population and Citizenship, and exceptionally to the Ministry of Interior, and to our representations abroad. These procedures are initiated in person or with a special power of attorney.

WHAT ARE THE PROCESSING STAGES IN APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP?

1. Opening a file (arranging a form petition)
2. Examining the requested documents and completing the deficiencies, if any (such as health report, residence time letter, criminal record record, passport photocopy, birth certificate, photograph, livelihood certificate, documents brought from the foreigner’s country, fee receipt, etc.)
3. Taking the report and fingerprints of the investigation made by the Police Department / Gendarmerie Command,
4. Participation in the citizenship examination commission meeting in person, (both spouses participate in applications due to the spouse)
5. Completion of the file as a result of the meeting and sending it to the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship with the opinion of the commission,
6. Coming of the decision and its notification to the foreigner.
